Story
Most years I plan to go dry for January! It's fine for the first few days then I inevitably slip off the waggon and go back to my evil drinking ways...
Well this year is going to be different. My son Tom told me about the Dryathlon just before Christmas and threw down the gauntlet - which I have duly picked up! My New Year’s resolution? I’m giving up alcohol. For January. For Cancer Research UK. I’m becoming a Dryathlete. All through January I’m not going to touch alcohol. Not a drop.
I know it's not going to be easy - that lovely glass of wine after a stressful day is always more than welcome but I'm going to be strong and stick to it this year. Not just because I know it will do me good but because raising money for Cancer Research is such a good cause and one very close to my heart.
Cancer has touched the lives of both my famliy members and my friends. The lucky ones have battled and survived, others are still fighting and sadly some have lost the fight.
But every pound that I, and my other fellow dry athletes, raise for Cancer Research UK will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I’ll be donating some of my drinking money and if I happen to slip off the wagon, I’ll chuck in an extra £15 to make up for it. (Although I'm determined not to let that happen!)
I hope you will support me by donating to a very worthy cause. I also plan to post updates on my Blog which you can check out at The Pixel Chef
Cheers - I'll see you down the pub in February!

The Dryathlete’s Oath I promise that I shall take part in Dryathlon™, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern it, committing myself to a month without alcohol, in the true spirit of do-gooding, for the glory of Dryathletes and the honour of Cancer Research UK.
