Story
On July 11th this year, I will be participating in the 'Etape Du Tour' raising money for the National Autistic Society. The Etape is a replica of the hardest stage of the Tour De France. It will be challenging 109km, cycling over three mountains (Col de Telegraph, Col de Galibier and the Alpe d'Huez) all in one day! This will be a great experience but importantly it will all be in aid of a fantastically good cause.
The National Autistic Society is the leading UK charity for people with autism and their families. They provide information, support and pioneering services, and campaign for a better world for people with autism.
Autism is much more common than most people think. There are over half a million people in the UK with autism – that’s around 1 in 100. Together with their families they make up over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day.
My link with the condition is my girlfriends niece Ciara and my friends daughter Louise who are on the autistic spectrum. We hope that by raising money for NAS we are championing a charity which will be there to support them and their families as they grow up. The fact is that while autism is incurable, the right support at the right time can make an enormous difference to people's lives.
We're all too aware there are simply thousands of wonderful charities which are all very deserving of our hard earned cash, but I can assure you NAS is definitely one of them.
