Story
I'm Peter de Waard and I'm known as Dougal. I cycled 3111 miles (about 5006 kilometres) in 29 days. I cycled by myself. I carried my own luggage and I did not use other transport to skip sections of the journey. I know you think this is a ridiculous, so please sponsor me for achieving this outrageous endeavour. I'm paid for the sponsored cycle. JustGiving sends your donation straight to Practical Action and, if you're a UK taxpayer, automatically reclaims Gift Aid on Practical Action's behalf, making your donation go further.
I started on the 4th of June, finishing on 2 July and cycled around the west of the USA. The ride starting at Davis, going along the coast between San Francisco and Portland. My cycle then zig zaged back and forth across the Cascades Mountain range and Sierra Nevada Mountain range. I averaged 107 miles a day, which is a personal achievement that I'm very proud of.
I called my wife about every other day, as the mobile reception was very sparse because I was cycling through such isolated areas. You can read about my cycle on this blog which was written by my wife.

About 70% of the poorest people in the world are subsistence farmers and Practical action creates simple ideas that can be created and used by these people to make their lives much better. Please sponsor my bike ride. Every penny you give to Practical action makes a significant difference the life of a poor family. Solutions like helping a family to feed themselves with a donkey plough or increasing their lives and helping the environment with an efficient stove that burns less wood.
