Story
My name is Val Del Prete, aka Double Thumb. I am a singer/songwriter from London UK. In March 2008 my mum passed away from a form of ovarian cancer that was resistant to any type of chemotherapy. She was diagnosed at a very early stage, but sadly she did not respond to treatment, so we could not do anything but see the illness progress until it killed her. It is already heartbreaking to see your mother die, but it is even more excruciating to see her fading away day by day, without being able to do anything, when she was initially given 97% chance to recover. Unfortunately this was not the only type of cancer affecting my mum during her life. Her battle against cancer started in 2004, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but she managed to recover completely. A second independent type of cancer appeared in her ovaries just a few months later and this time there was nothing to do.
Other members in my family have been affected by these types of hormonal cancers. My sister had breast cancer 2 years ago. My grand mum also had breast cancer, with 5 operations in her late 20s, in an era where chemotherapy did not exist. My sister and I are now under constant screening for both breast and ovarian cancer.
I decided to create this page to raise awareness and funds for these two types of cancer, that affect so many women. Any person donating through this page wiill receive my new EP Dreamscapes, which you can listen to here:
