MY STORY
I don’t know if you know but 5 years ago (2005) I ran/walked the London Marathon 2005 for the Macmillan Cancer charity (because so many of my friends and family had been diagnosed with Cancer). It was a remarkably big challenge for me as I had no experience of anything like this apart from the 5K Race for Life. Unbelievably, 3 days after doing the London Marathon for Macmillan I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I have had a gruelling 4 years of operations and ongoing treatment and basically been to hell and back but thanks to the training before hand I was fit enough to withstand most of it. Last year I went into remission and my husband and I decided it would be nice to mark the infamous 5 year marker! By doing the marathon again. Unfortunately 3 months later in July the Cancer returned and I had another 6 months of the very strongest from of Chemotherapy. It is a very aggressive form of Cancer and unfortunately although they have stabilised it, they can no longer cure it. I am at the moment though doing ok on the treatment, and have got a little more energy than I have had in a while. We both feel that this is important to us and want to continue with our quest because if we don’t do it this year, well, we might not get this opportunity again.
We will be running for Macmillan again, because as well as them getting me the place as a special wish they also have been amazing throughout my journey with the Cancer and I know will continue to do so. Also some monies will be going to Sandy Bears Charity, outside of just giving as they are not registered, who are a bereavement & loss service for Children, young people and their families. Again, going what we have gone/going through they have made our lives so much easier. To help us conquer the 26.2 miles needed we have dedicated the miles to friend and family who have had the unfortunate dealings with this disease. I did the same last time and it helped me so much to get through it all Some of the miles are In Memory of and the others are in Celebration of, as you can see by our list at the end. I have the advantage on Kev as I have done it before but not a stitch of exercise since then until now but Kev has never run anything in his life (except School - but that is so long ago I dare not mention it).
Now comes the BIG ONE, We need your help again. PLEASE, PLEASE Can you Sponsor us. We would like to get as much money as possible for these deserving charities, as a way of a Thank you for everything they have done and will do. It does not matter how small or big the donation is, absolutely anything would be generous, especially at these hard times and we will be grateful for anything. .
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life and reading this, you really do not know how much this means to us both and we will be eternally grateful. Thank you.
