Story
This week, The Donkey Sanctuary will donate £9,000 to Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire to help create secure perimeter fencing that provides safety to more than 400 rescued donkeys.
Please help if you can. The money will cover labour costs so that more than five kilometres of old, rusty and rickety fencing can be replaced. This fencing is essential to keep the donkeys safe from the harm and harassment they previously faced when wandering unprotected around the island.
The Donkey Sanctuary’s Director of International Operations, Stephen Blakeway, says: “Through their extraordinary dedication and hard work Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire have managed so far to take over 400 donkeys into care. They have been working towards taking all the donkeys into sanctuary so that they can live out their lives without coming into conflict with people or being harmed. The fencing is a fundamental reality of running a Sanctuary and we feel it is our duty to help these donkeys - the grant will solve a huge problem for them.”
The Donkey Sanctuary supports projects in 28 countries worldwide and has provided several small grants to Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire in the last 15 years.
If we reach our target of £9,000 we will use any further donations to fund international projects where we feel the donkeys’ welfare needs are deemed greatest.
