Story
Thank you for visiting the Dominase appeal page. Through our Brighter Futures Programme, Sabre has committed to build a brand new kindergarten school for the community of Dominase.
Our fundraising team has already raised a whopping £51,480 towards this project through grants from trusts and foundations and overseas fundraising, but we need your help to reach our target.
Dominase is a rural community in the KEEA municipality and at the moment there are no dedicated kindergarten classrooms at the village school. Two classes of kindergarten children are crammed into a primary school class, in a very temporary arrangement. The headteacher has made it clear the room is needed for the older pupils and the only solution is to build two new classrooms for kindergarten.
In partnership with Arup, the global engineers, Sabre has developed a brilliant design for kindergarten schools and already built three of these schools in Ghana. The schools are environmentally friendly and built by a community construction team using sustainable local materials like bamboo, coconut fibre, soil blocks and palm kernals. The school design uses a rain water harvesting system to provide water for cooking, washing and drinking.
This fantastic new style of school has already been recognised by international development bodies like UNICEF and DFID as providing some of the best education facilities in Ghana, and previous projects are now used as model schools to showcase optimal learning environments.
If you believe that every child deserves the best chance of success in life, no matter where they come from, then please support this project. As well as building the school, we will train the teachers and help them to make classroom materials to support activity based learning. You can read more about the Brighter Futures programme here.
