Story
I'm bedbound with this awful illness. Obviously I want to get better but I also don't want other people to have to suffer like this. So my family & friends on my behalf are doing some outstanding fundraising to help the charity help get us more biomedical research so we can all get well. Please help if you can...
Fundraising news for 2014...
Our nephew is doing his first triathlon in september. Wowee. So proud :-)
Our sons dance school chose the charity as one of its charity's for this years show & what a great show it was. Give my regards to broadway. Wonderful.
The swimarathon went really well again. Amazing achievement from everyone involved & a huge thank you to my friend for organising it.
2013...
Everyones been so busy over the festive season with the fundraising activities. It's been amazing. We've beaten yet another target which is fantastic. There isn't anything in the diary at the moment for the next event. But my husb did mention a potential chocolate workshop the other day! So I'll see what I can organise. There's another potential fundraiser too but we'll have to wait and see with that one... In the meantime this page remains open & a new target has been set. Thank you so much everyone so far. The charity can do great stuff with this :-)
Just a little reminder in amongst all this marathon talk... Thanks to one of my lovely friends, we also have a team entered into the swimmarathon coming up on Saturday 4th January... Splish splash!! :-)
Early this year my brother, my husband & our brother-in-law signed up for the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon for The M.E. Association & now there's only 2 weeks to go...
They've all worked so hard with their training & it's nearly here. So please support them if you can.
You can sponsor them here online
Or text...
YCKC91 £amount
to 70070
Or any cash or cheques we get, we will gather together & send directly to the M.E. Association
I know it's tricky this close to Christmas but just think if you'd spend a few pounds getting a gingerbread latte or a pint or some other such treat while you're out Christmas shopping! Maybe consider giving that to them instead. The pounds...not the drink!! I'm sure they're not allowed in the strict training regime! ;-)
I am, as always in awe of all of their efforts and so proud that they have chosen to do this to help raise awareness of this horrible illness & to raise money for the charity that helps so many people like me who are fighting to get well again.
Ages ago after quite a search for their next adventure, J found this epic marathon & M & Em were eager to join the challenge. They all signed up & the training started. They seem to have reached amazing fitness levels (shall I add... Especially considering how old they're all getting!!! Only joking!) and they have been fired up & raring to go (in an apprehensive/terrified kind of way!) for a while now.
Unfortunately M had a hip injury 6 weeks ago & after the Gp saying it should be better in 6 weeks & then it would be up to M what he decided to do. It is nowhere near better & despite wanting to run, he struggled to walk a couple of miles this week & was in a lot of pain afterwards. Luckily he lives in a house full of mobility aids! But apparently it says in the rules that no zimmer frames are to be used in the coastal marathon. So after various plans of hopping, piggy backs or a 3 legged race (to make use of the good legs between them all!) he has had to withdraw. He is so disappointed & frustrated (a feeling I know very well. It's extremely difficult to deal with your body not letting you do something you want to do. Whether it's run a marathon in M's case or stand up & take one step in mine) but he will be there on the day, cheering the other two on to do them all proud & hopefully he'll be mended & up & running for the next challenge.
So if Em has recovered from recently doing a marathon in the south of France (or relaxing on the beach - whichever it was he was doing that weekend!!) & if J's joints all hold together & he can cope with the cold & the jet lag - it should be a good day!?!
Please support them however you can. They definitely deserve it after all of their efforts & I know they'll appreciate it & be spurred on to beat the tide (yes they actually run on the beach!) & cross that finish line!
Thank you so much, firstly for reading this lengthy ramble but most importantly for all your support. I have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity over the last few years.
The charity really does appreciate it as it helps them in their campaign to help patients & their families & to educate the general public & the doctors! & to get us the proper biomedical research that we so desperately need.
Also I really appreciate your emotional support as it really does keep me going. It's gives me strength to keep fighting through the long days, weeks, months & years now that I've been bed bound, in my dark room, with very little strength, fighting infections & mostly unable to have visitors or do the things I love doing. It's extremely hard going but knowing the love & support that we are surrounded by makes me feel very lucky indeed.
Thank you xxxx
Ps please feel free to share this with anyone who you think will be interested to know what they're doing & who might want to support or sponsor them.
I am so pleased to be able to add our offline total to this page. It includes £49 raised at my husbands work canteen where they bake & sell portions of a charity pie each month. £75 of cheques that people gave to me to add to the charity collection. £170 that my sons school raised in a collection at the end of the school show when my youngest stood up & explained to everyone what the charity was all about & why he had suggested it. Very proud. £254.88 from our local swimmarathon. Where my family & friends were amazing and took up 5 lanes & swam& swam & cheered & raised loads of money. & finally... £8400 from my father in laws school who do an annual sponsored walk and this year they chose M.E. My Father in Law did an assembly all about the illness & the effect on me & my family. & the whole school took it on board and did a great job. They are absolutely amazing & I was overwhelmed by how much they raised. Outstanding. I am very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderfulpeople, it makes my fight through this illness more bearable. Thank you everyone xx
Im really pleased to say that Wallingford school are doing their annual sponsored walk on Friday for The M.E.Association. Huge Thanks to them all especially my lovely Father in Law. I hope it goes really well & That everyone has a fab day in the sun & raises loads for the charity :-)

Well. Matthew was due to be running again today to raise more money...but... He's had this horrible cold and if I've learnt anything from this awful illness it's to listen to your body and don't push on. So he's listening to his body, he's going to make sure he gets well from the bug and he'll run next time instead. There is always another event. So ... Not to worry :-)

I just want to say, again!... That I am astounded by just how generous everybody is. The total so far is amazing. The ME Association are doing great work. They are not only there to support people through information (to counteract some of the rubbish we see in the media!) and a helpline for patients and carers. But they are also funding bio medical research into why we are all so poorly and how to get us better. They are i believe involved with setting up a biobank in London. They are just wonderful and I must mention Dr Charles Shepherd who is the medical advisor for the charity. He is just wonderful. As a doctor AND an ME fighter himself. He really knows what it's all about. So basically thank you everyone and be assured you are helping a great cause. Matthew is getting ready for the Maidenhead Half Marathon on Sunday (well he's actually working at the moment!!) but I'm sure he's psyching himself up as he works!! ;-)

I may not physically be able to jump up and down with excitement. But inside I am. And that's quite tiring so off I go for a rest now. But you lot carry on...!!! ;-)

I've just had a text from the husb saying " I'd best make sure I finish this run then hadn't I?!!!!?!" I have no worries on that score. He's used to doing mountain marathons. So I think a half marathon around the streets of Maidenhead should make a nice change ;-)

I said to my husband (the one whos doing the running for me and M.E.) If only I were well... No! I still wouldn't/couldn't run all that way! I wouldve loved to swim, ski, skip, cycle (even though that doesn't start with an s!!) and lots of other things and I will again. This is why we are raising money to get more understanding of this terrible illness and help to get us all better again. Thank you for your help x

Wow! What a fantastic start. Thanks James - if you go for a long run at the same time. It'll be like you're doing it too. The other side of the world but there in spirit ;-)

I'm not very well, my husband is! So he's going to run a long way and we can sponsor him to say well done him and get well soon me and keep up the good work charity! Our aim is to raise as much money as possible for the MEAssociation who do a lot of good work to raise awareness, understanding and funds for much needed research into this awful, debilitating neurological illness which has made me (and a quarter of a million others diagnosed in the UK alone) very ill. I am now bed/wheelchair bound, suffering terrible muscle spasms, in a lot of pain and unable to function independently, not to mention the numerous other horrible neurological symptoms. This illness has ripped my active life away from me and I want it back! Please help if you can. Thank you
