In August 2012 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and commenced treatment almost immediately at Leicester Royal Infirmary at the beginning of September.

Fortunately, after a year of treatment which included various cycles of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in January 2013 I am now in full remission from the Leukaemia and my recovery is substantially complete. I still have some after-effects to deal with, which mean that medication and treatment will be ongoing for some time still. The main thing is that the cancer is gone and my fitness is returning.

Generally, my 'Road to Recovery' has been a smooth one and whilst I've had some peaks and troughs, I have not suffered any major complications or side effects. But during my treatment I have seen many others who are not so lucky and whose path is much more torturous than mine as they face their own battle with blood cancers like I have.

Early in my treatment, after being inspired by a friend, I set myself a goal of marking the end of my Road to Recovery by climbing Mount Snowdon in North Wales during 2013. I hope to raise substantial funds for my chosen charity, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research - with your help!

The climb took place on Sunday 29th September 2013 and I was accompanied by a fantastic team of family and friends, all wearing our bright red Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research T-shirts as the photos show.

My sons and the fitter members of the team climbed like mountain goats and made the summit much easier than me. I found it a lot tougher than I had anticipated and struggled with the lack of strength in my legs and being able to get my breath back following my illness and treatment.

Thanks to the support of a dedicated group of friends though, I did eventually make it to the summit and our team re-grouped. Being stood on the summit with my twin sons was one of the proudest moments in my life, and a very emotional one bearing in mind the treatment I'd gone through in the preceding 12 months.

The donations recieved so far have been fantastic and have been added to by offline activities such as a bucket shake at the Northampton Saints vs Saracens rugby match in October.
