Story
There are not many amongst us whose life hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way. My sister died through cancer a few years ago and, throughout her final days, was looked after by members of Macmillan Cancer Support.
I have a friend who met and became friends with a cancer sufferer named Karen Goodwin. Although Karen was terminally ill, she had a dream of raising money for Macmillan Cancer support by organising and participating in a sponsored charity climb up Mount Snowdon in Wales. Even with a collapsed lung she almost made it but fate delivered a cruel blow and they were forced to retreat when they were agonisingly close to the summit through bad weather.
Karen sadly passed away in January 2013 but Kate vowed that she would finish the job off for her by arranging another sponsored climb up Mount Snowdon taking a group of ladies, many of which are or have been affected by the dreadful disease.
I have climbed Snowdon many times (well, about half a dozen times to be more exact) and it presents a good challenge for anyone. Let alone the fact that some of these ladies are inexperienced climbers, they are also coping with the debilitating effects of cancer treatment. To attempt Snowdon under these circumstances commands nothing but admiration and respect.
I have agreed to be a walk leader for a sub-group of around a total of 50 participants in this challenge that is to take place on 1 June, 2013. I’m sure it will prove to be a challenging experience for me in its own way, certainly emotionally and to succeed in ensuring these ladies achieve their goal.

Thank you.
