I must be mad!! 500 kilometres over 5 days with only my little legs to peddle me, to ! Madness indeed but it is founded upon pure inspiration. In October this year I bumped into an old friend of mine, Peter Golding, who I have known for some 27 years but hadn’t seen for some time. After chatting away idly whilst catching up over a beer or two, the subject of health came up and Peter told me that he had been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer a few years ago.
After listening to Peter’s story I was in complete awe and inspired by the recovery that he had made with the help of so many people. I have always known Peter to be a determined and goal driven man and when he stated that he planned to take part in this charity bike ride the words left my mouth before my brain had time to register what I was saying: ‘Peter I would like to support you and do the bike ride as well!’.
A few days later Peter contacted me to check that it wasn’t just the beer talking and that I really did want to participate in the event. Personally I have never been so determined to do anything in my whole life! With the bike making a comeback out of its garden shed retirement, I am resolute to complete this challenge and have even asked Santa for some Lycra for Christmas!
Prostate cancer is an illness that can effect men at random and this bike ride is my tiny contribution to helping those fighting the disease and the medical professionals working hard to support them, as well as showing my support for my good friend Peter www.justgiving.com/petergolding.
