Story

I am so pleased you have come to check out my fundraising page and will be absolutely delighted if you would make a donation/pledge to my cause.  Please know that no amount is too small - every penny absolutely counts and will be gratefully received by my charity.

Over the next 10 months or so I shall be getting involved in all kinds of fundraising activities culminating in the most challenging event the “Lapland – Husky Trail” 14th - 21st April 2007.  This involves, being part of a team of 17, travelling to the Arctic Circle and sledging 250 km across Norway and Sweden over the 6 days.  We will be pitching up tents after a 14 hour working day (this is the part where my better half was rolling about laughing), loo facilities are non existent – probably a hole in the snow, followed by some very unladylike manoeuvring when nobody’s looking  (this was the bit where my colleagues fell about laughing, and my mother looked horrified) but its only for 6 days and all in a good cause!

I am paying the admin fees, cost of equipment hire etc for this challenge myself so all the money you donate will go directly to my Charity.

My chosen charity is the New Children’s Hospital Appeal which aims to raise £20m to support projects within the new hospital.   The New Children’s Hospital Appeal will help ensure the new hospital, which will be the biggest children’s hospital in the country providing specialist services to the region’s poorliest children, has equipment and facilities that are second to none. The appeal will focus on two main areas:  1). Ensuring that the new state-of-the-art buildings have the best equipment available for diagnosis and treatment and 2) providing accommodation so that parents can stay close to their child during treatment.  Patients will come to the children’s hospital from all across Manchester and the North West Region including Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Merseyside, and in some cases even internationally.   They will range in age from newborn babies right up to teenagers and young adults. Whatever their age their needs will be the same; they need access to the latest life saving equipment and they need a place for their parents to stay whilst remaining close by.  The New Children’s Hospital Appeal have just launched a brand new website, full of information on the development of the new hospital together with the services they plan to offer and stories of our plucky little patients at: www.newchildrenshospitalappeal.org.uk .   Just so you know donating through this site is very easy and most importantly it is totally secure!  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% will be added to your donation at no cost to you.  If, however, you really do not like to do transactions on line, money in any form will be gratefully received please contact me at deborah.hillier@cmmc.nhs.uk  .

If you have time check out my "blog" at www.deborahs-journal.blogspot.com and the "Challenge Page" which will give you an idea of the route and what is involved.

Once again, many thanks for your interest,  support and generosity
