We have chosen to run for Alzheimer's this year as many of you will know, my dear Grandma (Lettie) passed away last year after struggling with intensive dementia for over five years.  It was a great struggle for her as she remained strong physically but her poor mental agility and memory began to fade and then quickly deteriorated so that she often felt scared and unaware of the family visits and friends around her.

The Alzheimer's Society are a great charity who support research into dementia and alzheimers disease.  They support people by providing information and support for people with all kinds of dementia and sufferers from alzheimers, they fund research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of this life changing disease and the provide learning resources and training to support the sufferers and for those who may need to care for them.

Did you know: 

 - Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke,

 - One in three people over 65 will die with dementia

 - Over 700,000 people have dementia in the UK, this figure is expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025

 - Dementia is not a natural part of ageing - it is caused by diseases of the brain that rob people of their lives.
