We provide expert care and support to young people with cancer

Story

Back in November 2012 my brother was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive terminal cancer, Rhabdomysosarcoma; he was given a very limited prognosis of single figure months. To put it into perspective 1 in a million people are diagnosed with this type of cancer so he really is one of a kind. Amongst numerous trips to the hospital over the last year for treatment his approach has been absolutely astounding. Nothing has stopped him even following a major hip replacement operation within days he was on route to see the likes of Mumford & Sons and Ben Howard at the Olympic Park. Throughout the whole situation Ali continued to remain strong and his bravery was absolutely amazing but unfortunately on the 22nd November he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the St Elizabeth Hospice. For more of an insight into just how well my brother dealt with his illness please take a few minutes to read his inspirational blog; http://bollockstocancer.blogspot.co.uk/

On the 8 November 2014, Cam Wheeler, Scott Girling and Tom Caraccio-Hewitt will be taking on the epic challenge of cycling 420km through Death Valley in Nevada in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust! Over the course of our journey, we aim to average 90km a day while having also to encounter temperatures of up to 30 degrees and steep hill climbs of over 5,200ft.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity that over the last year has hugely helped my brother, not least through enabling him to benefit from being on their special ward C9 at Addenbrooks Hospital in Cambridge. C9 blows any hospital ward expectation out of the water. It really does have everything a young person in such a difficult situation would want,  a social zone with 50” TV, games consoles, juke box and pool table, each patient bay also equipped with TV and blu-ray player, not to mention an absolutely superb team of doctors, nurses and support staff. We have set ourselves this challenge in memory of Ali and main purpose of our journey is to raise money and thank this wonderful charity for all their hard work in improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients in the hope that more specialist units can be built!

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity very close to our hearts and the amazing support it has provided to my brother has inspired us to take on this challenge. Any donation towards the exceptional work of this charity would be hugely appreciated.
