Hello
Many thanks for visiting my fundraising page for Pratical Action. Pratctical Action are a charity that provide low tech solutions to help communites in the developing world.
Climbing is a passion of mine and the grin in the picture at the summit of Loboje East shows the pleasure I get from climbing. On the expedition we were supported by a team of local porters, guides and cooks and I thought at the time I would like to help their communities as they had selflessly helped all of us on our trip. You get to know these guys and hear of the hardships they endure to provide for their families. I aim to raise £2100 which will pay for the generator in a micro hydroelectricity scheme in the Alpamayo region. This will provide a constant supply of electricity to over 60 families much improving & enhancing their qualirty of life now & on into the future.
I plan to climb Alpamayo with my friend Sue which is some 5947 m or 19,511 ft above sea level. http://www.jagged-globe.co.uk/exp/itinerary/alpamayo.html .We have had alot of fun getting to the standard necessary to climb Alpamayo and the following is a link to a video made by a great friend Ted 'Summit Dreams' Bradley amongst other trips shows us on the hill in Scotland- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPA7m7xVomA&feature=email
Alpamayo is known as the most beautiful mountain in the world and to climb it requires an alpine type ascent of technical ice climbing in crampons and ice axes finally climbing the ice flutes to the summit. A challange at sea level but much more so an altitude- an exciting climb! It will take us the best part of 2.5 weeks to acclimatize before attempting the summit bid.
Again we will have the supporting team of guides, cooks etc. which form the backbone of an expediation such as this. The money raised will go back directly into their local community from which those supporting us are drawn.
Any donation you can make will be much appreciated.
UPDATE after trip- see link for update and video/slideshow of climb:-
