Story
David Clarke, Britain’s most capped blind footballer, is walking 100k from London to Brighton in under 24 hours to raise money for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. To support David, please donate below or text DCGB99 with the amount you want to donate to 70070.
Despite suffering from congenital glaucoma since childhood, David has represented Britain as part of the national blind football team in over 100 matches and three Paralympic Games, trained David Beckham how to play the sport blindfolded and lit the Paralympic cauldron two years ago at the London Games’ opening ceremony.
Now he is undertaking a new challenge: to walk 100k in under 24 hours for Blind Veterans UK.
David says: “I’m proud to be participating in Blind Veterans UK’s 100k London to Brighton Walk from Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd June.
“I’ll be joining several of the visually impaired ex-Service men and women supported by Blind Veterans UK on the walk and I am looking forward to raising money for this great charity alongside them.
“Like those supported by Blind Veterans UK, I understand the impact that a visual impairment can have on a person's life – and the drive to make sure that blindness doesn’t stop you from aspiring to achieve great things and succeeding at what you love.”
Blind Veterans UK believes that no-one who has served in our country’s Armed Services should have to battle sight loss alone. Funds raised from the 100k, which is the charity’s biggest annual fundraiser, will go towards providing blind and vision-impaired veterans with free and comprehensive support.
