Story

Help for Heroes Climb for Heroes

Friday 7th & 8th May

The chosen charity of our Lady Captain, Susan Bailey, is “Help for Heroes”. For those that don’t know Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded servicemen and women returning from and .

In order to begin our fundraising this year, the Gym team decided that such a charity needed a platform that in some way represented the grit and hard work that is synonymous with our troops in the field.

Working as a team of six people, we are attempting to climb the equivalent height of the seven highest peaks of the seven continents of the world stacked on top of each other…..in 24 hours….non-stop…..on the infamous Versa Climber -That’s around 150,000ft !

The idea was actually the brainchild of one of our members . Now Dave isn’t your average member. One time International rugby player and now Executive Director of the Fitness Industry Association, (governing body for health and leisure clubs in the UK) he has competed at the highest level in sport and now devotes his time to promoting health and fitness throughout the country. The FIA works closely with the Government to pursue their aim for a healthier nation by raising public awareness and continually improving standards within the health and fitness industry.

Where you take part is in your support for the six “disturbed” people that have put pride and pain on the line in order to raise as much money as possible for our heroes on the front line.

Please sponsor one or all for each 1000 feet covered or a grand total of your choosing.

We hope for each participant to achieve approx 25,000 feet meaning £1 (per 1000 feet) should net £25 total.

Thank you in advance for your support.

The Climbers

On Friday May 7th six people will be attempting to climb the equivalent of the seven highest mountains on each of the world’s seven continents within a 24-hour period on the Versa Climber. This will test the ability and resolve of even the most disillusioned members of the team as they strive to raise money for our Lady Captain’s charity “Help for Heroes”. The event starts at 5pm on Friday 7th and concludes at 5pm Sat 8th.

Please support them and our charity by sponsoring any or all and by showing up at any point in the pain to push them on.

The team is made up of three members and three gym staff.

Members:

Mikka Erilsen        Fitness challenge champion and all round super athlete.

Dave Stalker         The man with the idea - hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Mikael Wersall       Uses the Versa Climber for therapy. Electric shocks would be less painful.

Gym Staff:

Fonz                        Lycra fetishist. Said yes but only if he could wear a thong.

Paul                         Superboy. Said yes thinking he was doing it on his own.

Gideon                    Anti cardio activist. Didn’t say yes…

Make no mistake; this is a tough challenge for a tough charity. Sponsor your favourite (or them all) and turn up on the day(s) to support their efforts and keep track of how they’re doing.

Thank you in advance for your support.
