Story
So what's the challenge? We will have to travel up to 10,000 miles over a three week period from London to Cameroon. If you don't know where Cameroon is....just imagine traveling through 15 different countries in a tiny car in the middle of the Sahara desert! With no help if you break down, no bathrooms, no hotel stays...just yourself, your partner and a map that you can’t even read. Better yet, you have tourist written all over you and the guards bribe you at every opportunity, and unfortunately you don’t speak the language either, so you can’t ask for directions and the one guy you would ask - is the guard...and as I said before, he just wants your money.
The Adventurists Africa Rally is like a solid oak table - it is made up of four proud legs:
1. Charity - raising huge sums of cash for awesome projects
2. Vehicles - 1-litre, Left Hand drive and completely impractical
3. The route - there isn't one! You make it yourself.
4. On your own - there's absolutely no back up, or support during the event
The Charity - Send a Cow work with rural community groups in nine countries in Africa, providing small-scale farmers with the skills and means to feed their families and earn an income.
Their work is based around:
· Sustainable agricultural training, following the principle of integrating crops and livestock
· Livestock (bought in Africa) and training in animal husbandry
· Environmental sustainability training to ensure that land is protected for future generations
· Social development support to strengthen groups so they can move towards self-sufficiency
· Support and follow up from their staff until community members are able to support each other
· The pass-on principle, by which farmers pass on the benefits (eg the first female offspring of their livestock and the skills they have learned) to another family, so their work goes on multiplying.
Many, many thanks for donating to this great cause. We know you are asked continually to support great causes and we genuinely appreciate you supporting ours.
