About Leonard Cheshire

Leonard Cheshire Disability is a fantastic charity that genuinely changes lives. From dedicated care homes that help manage disabled people's needs 24 hours a day, to superb programmes that help disabled students take their first steps into work, Leonard Cheshire makes a real difference... but they need our help to give their help.

Why Leonard Cheshire?

My younger sister, Sarah, was born with Down's Syndrome. I've had first-hand experience of the extra support available for people with disabilities, and know how extremely difficult it would be for families without the help of local support and charities.

I've been ever so grateful for the support my family received with Sarah, which made me want to support a disability charity. Having worked with and supported Leonard Cheshire over the past year through my employer (Barclaycard), I have become very attached to the work they do. I've chosen Leonard Cheshire so that individuals and families can continue to receive their support.

Why the London Marathon?

This is a personal challenge for me, too. Five years ago I was around 7 stones heavier, and found it difficult to do any kind of physical activity. I decided "enough was enough" and started to lose weight, which allowed me to experience new hobbies such as cycling and snowboarding. 

Three years ago I started my first endurance event: a 100km bike ride. A triathlon and half-marathon followed, with the London Marathon being the ultimate challenge. 

My journey is far from over, but I want to share my experiences so far with others who may be like me and question whether they can do it. It's never too late!
