Story
My friend, colleague and mentor Neil Jennings was taken by motor neurone disease in January 2021, and so I am attempting to do something both to honour his memory and to raise some money for MND Association in the process. Both Neil and I shared a passion for cars so I am doing the logical thing; I have bought a race car and will be doing various exciting things with it!
First off I have entered the car into the Ginetta GT Academy racing championship which will see me compete in 13 races across 5 race weekends in 2022.
To bring MNDA into this I will be getting the car wrapped with a racing livery to showcase MNDA's brand, more info on this soon.
I will be running a "hot lap" day where I will take people out in the car at a race circuit, in exchange for a donation, so they can experience the thrill of driving at speed round a race track.
I will also be doing hot laps with some people living with MND who have such a thing on their bucket list
I am a complete novice to circuit racing, having done my first ever track in September 2021 to kick off this journey. I am learning quickly but circuit driving is both thrilling and terrifying in equal measure at the moment! The thought of competing in my first race is scary but I'm facing my fears and cracking on with it! As the adage goes "Do something every day that scares you". Well I definitely have that covered at the moment!
Details of the race weekends can be found here: https://www.ginetta.com/news/ginetta-announce-provisional-2022-race-calendars
I'm racing on the following days in 2022:
07/08 May - Silverstone
28/29 May - Donington Park
11/12 June - Oulton Park
10/11 September - Brands Hatch
15/16 October - Donington Park
Whatever I manage to collect in donations by the end of the race season I will match myself, so get donating!
