Hello there.
Thanks for taking the time to read my justgiving page.
I am going to ride from Lands End to John O Groats with my better half Hannah Jones. We plan to set off on august 16th and should be on the road for three weeks averaging 50 miles a day. The charity i have decided on is the alzheimers society as i have experience with the illness and Hannah is doing it for the NSPCC so were covering the spectrum of young and old. If everyone ive ever met who has added me on facebook, whether it be people ive known all my life or people i met on a night out gave just a few quid it would be amazing. Anything you can give will be much appreciated as the alzheimer's society really is a worthy cause and it will definately make me feel better about the bike ride as im no Lance Armstrong!
Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is the leading suport and research charity for the illness.
Many of its 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform our work.
There are over 750,000 people in Britain with a type of dimentia as this doesnt strictly mean alzheimers. The alzheimers society cares for people suffering from parkinsons, vascular dimentia and dimentia with lewy bodies. By 2021 the figures are supposed to go up to 1,000,000 people suffering from dimentia.
Through campaigning and lobbying the azheimers society strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. And through their research programme they work to improve the knowledge we have about dementia and its treatment - and pursuing the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
