On Sunday 3rd April 2011 hundreds of people will be dancing in the beautifully refurbished De Grey Rooms Ball Room from morning ‘til night to provide Access for All. People of all ages and abilities will be trying their hand at turn of the century Ceilidh Dancing, spicy Salsa and Latin American, 1920s and ‘30s Jazz, glamorous ‘40s Ballroom, 1950s Rock ‘N’ Roll, 1990s Hip Hop or classic Disco all with professional guidance to raise money to help others experience and enjoy these spectacular facilities
Staff from the York Theatre Royal will be showing their commitment to the cause by taking part in a staff relay. Many staff from various departments will be taking part, including: Liam Evans-Ford our Community Producer in the Disco class, Abbigail Wright Head of Communications doing 1950s Rock ‘n’ Roll, Janis Smyth Head of Finance in the Ballroom class, Liz Wilson our Chief Executive and Rebecca Storey our Press and Media Manager in the 1920s Jazz class, Nicky Dawson and Jorvik Kalicinski-Chrzanowski from Catering are taking part in the Ceilidh and Julian Ollive from Education will also be DJing the family Disco whilst participating throughout the day.
Jean Harvey from the Accounts Department and Shona Cowie from Education are even giving up their time to prepare and teach two of these taster classes, while Katy Nelson, the Theatre Administrator, will be throwing her all into the fundraising effort by dancing for the full 10.5 hours! We also have a huge number of volunteers without whom this day would not be possible.
