For those of you who don't know already, on the 6th of August I will be heading to Ghana to volunteer at the Kumasi Children's Home for three weeks!

The orphanage cares for over 200 children, with an increasing number of children who have disabilities. Due to the lack of funding, the home relies heavily on volunteers to look after these children. Volunteers are able to comfort the children, play with them and provide crucial one to one attention, which they would otherwise go without.

I am hoping to raise as much money as possible to provide for these children. The money raised will be used in a variety of ways:

-- the resources for children with disabilities are extremely limited, so I am hoping to buy toys and equipment to stimulate and support these children.

- buy bubbles (£1 for a pack!) colouring pencils and books for all the children to enjoy

- take the children out for a day at the swimming pool (it costs just £100 to take ALL the children out!)

- Fix any resources that the children currently use

I will also be visiting another, more rural unofficial orphanage which was started by one man looking after street children who were in need of support. He has lots of love to give them but sadly not enough resouces. Therefore, some of the money raised will be used to support these children too!

I currently work at Townhill Junior School and will also be holding an Easter cake sale and raffle to try and raise as much money as I can, so if you would like to support by buying one of these cakes (or even help with baking them!) then please get in touch!
