Hello…my name is Taryn Roberts, I’m 28 years old and from Thornbury, Bristol. I work as a Fitness instructor and also help my parents out with their online food store. My passion is Triathlon - Ironman distance.

This October I will be racing in the Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona Hawaii with the best triathletes from all over the world.

An Ironman Triathlon consists of a 2.4 miles swim/ 112 mile road cycle and a 26.2 mile marathon. All raced consecutively in one day. It’s known as the hardest one day endurance event in the world.

There are Ironman races held all over the world but Kona Hawaii is where the World championships are held once a year and you can only race there by qualifying in your respected age category. Mine currently being 25-29.

I qualified for Kona by winning my age category at Ironman Wales last September. I won by just over an hour with a time of 11 hours 36minutes. It was my third attempt, with previous results of 9th at Bolton in 2016 and 3rd at Wales 2017.

Unfortunatley as with most sports, the higher the level the more costs are involved. The road to Kona has already proven to be very expensive - starting from entry costs - £850, flights £900 + ,travel expenses, accommodation, bike transport, race gear etc.

I’m hoping to try and raise some money to help towards the costs of my trip to the World Championships.

I train extremely hard every day and put my all into it, with some weeks reaching 15 hours of training. Which is not always easy fitting the training in around my jobs and life’s daily commitments that we all have.

My goal is to win my age category at Kona this year and to try and become a professional triathlete within the next couple of years.

I’d like to see how far I can go in the Ironman World and I am willing to give it my absolute all.
