Tara's Challenge
Our founder and leader, Tara Johnson, has recently completed an incredible challenge in order to raise money for Tailored Leisure Company. Tara has cerebral palsy and usually uses a chair to get around. For this challenge, Tara will be standing for 21 hours over 5 days - the fist time in 20 years! To take a stand for access and build an accessible complex for families but she still needs your help!
Tara has took on an intensive training programme in preparation for this incredible challenge. She has been training tirelessly with Coach Becks and following a meal plan by Macro Based Diner to get fitter and stronger.
Over the last 8 weeks Tara has been documenting her fitness journey over on our Facebook page Facebook Page AND Instagram - sharing the highs and lows of this amazing challenge.
Support Tara with her incredible journey and sponsor a butterfly today lets show her that we are all standing with her. Name your Butterfly when you make your sponsor in the comments box
I have known Tara and her family for 11 years and what I have seen her overcome in the last few years has been just amazing from ill health 5 years ago following major surgery to loss of her job seen her at rock bottom . So what I hear you ask well like many disabled people trying to get fit and well, or finding accessible services of support and employment to enable you to be independent as I am sure Tara will tell us is an uphill battle for her and so many others all over the UK and for so many not even an option due to inaccessibility still being a problem. What she is attempting is amazing I am so proud of her
There are 14 million people living with disabilities in the UK and many face challenges accessing everyday leisure facilities as a result of this. Despite the We have already engaged 2,500 people through our Sit To Be Fit, social group, volunteering programmes and spa therapy. But we want to do
Of the 2,000 people we asked, 62% had NEVER been on a short-break holiday. We believe that disabled people should be just as able to access holiday breaks, so we want to create our own one-of-a--kind holiday complex here in the North East - Butterfly of the North.
Designed by disabled people, for disabled people, this holiday complex will unlock barriers to short breaks and leisure services for people with disabilities across the North East.
It has been an honour to work with Tara and see just what can be achieved no matter your ability. I joined the team because I believe exercise should be accessible for all join me in showing Tara if we all stand together we can make a difference
We've found our perfect property here in the North East.. now we need YOUR support to raise £1.5 million and achieve accessible leisure for everyone something that is so easily taken for granted coach becks said "
When you join our community of supporters you can name a butterfly when sponsoring her which will be displayed on our 'Freedom Wall' at the complex! Coach Becks said;
Tara has worked so hard in training it has not been easy I am honoured to be part of her journey and supporting others to access exercise that should be accessible for all - Lets stand together and make it happen!
Since Completing the challenge we have raised an amazing £44,000 but we still need our community to help Tara by sponsoring a butterfly name your butterfly after someone special and watch it come to life on our freedom
