Story

Having run 90km around the school’s running track when taking part in the 'Comrades, Race the Legends Virtual Race' during the lockdown of summer 2020, we thought it was time to set ourselves another challenge. With this one, however, we were keen not to run in a circle quite so much and instead have chosen something much straighter!

Just after the end of term on 8th July, we will be running the Hadrian’s Wall Path trail which runs from Bowness-on-Solway, just west of Carlisle, to Wallsend, in Newcastle. The trail is approximately 140km (80 Roman miles!) and we will be running continuously, hoping to finish in less than 19 hours. We will be joined by Max Jones who is going to be our support crew and also film the challenge. We will be wearing GPS trackers so that people are able to keep track of our progress in real-time and we hope to give regular updates as we move across the country! We will start at around 4am and aim to arrive in Newcastle by 11pm.

We are going to be raising money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Maclaren Foundation.

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity works to support the hospital so it can continue to make such a significant difference to the lives of its patients and their loved ones, as well as cancer patients across the world. The money raised by the charity allows the hospital to undertake life-saving research and be a world leader in treatment and care, as well as investing in state of the art equipment.

The aim of the Maclaren Foundation is to provide long-term financial support for means-tested bursaries for pupils at Summer Fields Prep School. The money raised will help to increase the endowment fund so that the school can build upon its tradition of excellence by widening access and enabling talented pupils, regardless of background and ability to pay, to benefit from an education at Summer Fields.

It will certainly be a very hard challenge but we are hopeful of raising a good sum of money for two worthy causes and this will help us to keep going!

Do stay posted for updates in the build up to the challenge and on the day itself!

Thank you for your support, we are very grateful!
