    ****** May UPDATE ****** TARGET S-T-R-E-T-C-H

Thank you, to all of you, no matter how much you have donated, we’ve been blown away by the community’s generosity to help fight this license.

Your support has enabled our legal team to get very busy working on finding the evidence we need to support our arguments on why licence MLA/2022/00180 should never have been granted and to call for it to be revoked. As you can appreciate there are a lot of documents and data to go through with a fine-tooth comb, this takes time to do properly.

We have reached a stage where we need to engage experts to verify our findings and are commissioning a technical report to show exactly why a seaweed farm shouldn’t be in Port Isaac Bay.

Unfortunately, this costs money and we are stretching our target to cover this. We know it’s a big ask, but if you haven’t yet donated, know anyone who hasn’t and would like to or are able to add to your donation it helps give us a better fighting chance.

Once we have the technical report and the legal team have everything they need we will be in a position to share this as a group and ask everyone to make their individual representations as well.

Thank you very much for your continued support.

One of the most beautiful and unspoilt stretches of our north Cornish coast is about to be exploited.

We are a concerned group of people who’ve come together after discovering an industrial sized inshore seaweed farm has been granted a licence by the Government Agency; the Marine Management Organisation (MMO).

This news has taken our community by surprise, no one knew about it.

We believe people should be asked for their views on such a large commercial venture and we are trying to get the licence revoked to allow this to happen.

In order to do this we need to gather expert scientific, environmental and legal advice and this costs money. We’re asking for your help by donating here.

Under MMO rules the public consultation consisted of one notice placed in one local newspaper for one week and one notice displayed in the vicinity of the proposed works for 28 days. This happened at a time when the country was still reeling from the extraordinary shock of Covid and Lockdown Rules.

None of us who live here, walk, swim, surf, fish or enjoy the coastal paths and beaches had any idea that this licence had been applied for, or that it had been granted.

The Port Isaac Bay seaweed farm is equivalent to 140 football pitches in size and less than one-and-a-half miles from the shore in a designated National Landscape (previously an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

Located in the eye of Atlantic storms it will be clearly visible from the coast path between Tintagel and The Rumps, having a negative impact on walkers, boating, fishing, surfing and many other coastal activities, never mind the impact on sea life.

We do not believe MMO rules and the legislation governing them are adequate. If this has happened here, it can happen all along the coast of England without local communities having a fair say.

We are not anti-seaweed farms, the companies who operate them, or their potential benefits, we just believe the Government need to develop a properly joined-up policy for where seaweed farms should be sited and that should include proper public consultation with local and broader communities who benefit mentally, emotionally and financially from the coastline.

We have had amazing community support to stop this development already and understand times are hard, but anything you can donate to this fund will help us to keep fighting to stop this disastrous proposal.

***ANY SURPLUS FUNDS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL CAUSES
