    Story

I COMPLETED MY WALKING MARATHON WITH MY WALKER ON 31st MAY.

I STARTED MY SECOND MARATHON ON 14th JUNE, USING A RACE RUNNER!

I HOPE TO REACH THE HALF WAY POINT ON SATURDAY 11th JULY

PLEASE WATCH MY PROGRESS ON FACEBOOK Tobias’s Marathon Challenge.

Tobias is nine years old and is an intelligent, quirky, happy little boy with an amazing sense of humour and level of determination. He has Cerebral Palsy and Autism so he faces many challenges on a daily basis. He cannot stand or walk unaided and requires support with most tasks that we usually take for granted.

Tobias was planning on completing a 1km sponsored walk in May in our local park, unfortunately this wasn’t possible. Inspired by Captain Tom, he declared, ‘Why don’t I use my walker to try to complete a marathon by walking up and down my street every day?’ A marathon!!! At the start of lockdown, with the aid of his walker and with lots of encouragement, Tobias could walk a maximum of 50 metres. He completed his marathon on 31st May, walking up to 750 metres each day.

He’s now taking on a new challenge, running a marathon, using a race runner.

Tobias has chosen to raise money for his two favourite charities, Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Paces School.

Tobias visits Sheffield Children’s Hospital on a regular basis and has had several operations there. He genuinely enjoys going ‘for a sleepover’ because the staff ensure the whole experience is as positive as possible. He looks forward to using the games and technology that they provide but most of all he looks forward to eating jelly!

Tobias attends Paces School in Sheffield. We are so lucky that he has place at the school as it’s an amazing place. It is a Conductive Education school where the focus is on independence, developing movement, function and personality. It is a non-maintained special school where the ethos is centred on children being challenged on a daily basis to strive to reach their full potential. Without this school, Tobias would not have made nearly as much progress as he has done and continues to do so. The building that Tobias and his friends are currently in isn’t fit for purpose, so Tobias wants to raise money towards their new fundraising campaign ‘A New Home for Paces’ to provide a new school with the facilities that Tobias and his friends deserve.

Please help us to help Tobias to achieve his goal of raising money for his two favourite charities and completing his marathons so he can help other children benefit in the way he has from these charities.

    Thank you so much.

    Love from

    Tobias (aka Captain Tobias) xx

Good morning all! Here’s a salute for you! I’ve just learnt how to do this because this daily walk has built up my strength and now I can take one hand off my walker. Whoop whoop! I did a short 500m yesterday, I was really tired. I’ll be back on it today at 750m. Not too far off three quarters of the way there now! Thanks for donating! x

Look at meeeeeeee, I’m huge! I was on my local radio station and then on a billboard on the main road out of Sheffield. I had a lovely day, today. I walked another 750metres so my total is now 27,700metres. About another 20 days or so to go...
