Story

The father, daughter duo are running the London marathon but why?

Maureen and Terry Oakley were the head of the family, their kindness, selflessness and love made them our greatest treasure. Unfortunately, we lost them both this year within 9 weeks of each other. Throughout all of the sadness, as they would have wanted we have all found light. Whether that is in robins in the garden, hair pins and screws we find on the floor or entering and gaining 2 places in the London Marathon.

Something that seems incredibly unlikely has happened, so after what has been a heavy year for us all, we are making some positivity and raising money for a place Maureen and Terry (Nan and Grandpa) absolutely loved, Brewood Dementia Group.

Living with dementia is incredibly difficult and after witnessing the challenges nan and grandpa went through over the last few years of their lives, Brewood Dementia Group gave them peace, joy and companionship for a couple of hours every week. Something I know both of them thoroughly enjoyed, we hope by raising some money for this lovely group we will be able to offer the same experiences for other couples/families that are currently going through the same thing.

Brewood Dementia Group offer weekly sessions that include: live music, tea coffee and time. Time to relax, time to sing and time for carers to be looked after too. They also make sure to take the group to events throughout the year, such as meals out and pantomimes. All adventures that a carer and sufferer of dementia would find incredibly hard without the support of the volunteers and organisers of these trips out.

Any donation big or small would mean the world to us, and will also be going to a fantastic cause. So, wish us luck running 26.2 miles will definitely be made easier knowing we are making a difference in our local community. If you can’t donate then kudos on strava will also be accepted :)

All our love,

Phoebs and Kev x
