Story
2020 &2021 have been an amazing big year for fundraising at Painswick Cricket Club - with amazing support to date - including the fabulous sponsored walk from Painswick to Lords, the home of cricket.
We’ve raised money to fund the development of two new nets which are an essential element of supporting and building our senior and junior cricket teams. They replace of the current nets, which are old and no longer adequate.
We have now raised over £10,000 pounds via this site which has included the two fabulous sponsored walks and other donations from the various messages, social and local media and kind donations from our supporters. We have also secured over £12,000 from our other fund raising, supporters and various other sources all of which have contributed to the fabulous efforts. We have also sought a loan from WEPL ( the West of England Premier League ) to help get us close to the target as we have unfortunately not received monies yet from the ECB and have still to secure tenure and legal agreement.
Any additional support will help us secure the full amount and also early repayment of the loan which will enable us to invest elsewhere in the club in due course, rather than making loan repayments.
However as a result of all this great work we are looking to commence installation of the new nets in June and this will mean our senior and junior sections should be able to benefit from this in July. With over 100 participating in the All Star, Dynamos and junior section and at least 3 sides playing every weekend, the club is going from strength to strength and we are delighted with the progress.
To help with this, John Reeves, whose sons both play in the junior section is running the London Marathon and is looking to split his fund raising efforts between the Nets appeal and the British Heart Foundation and the Nets appeal. Please could you look to support John via this page and also look at his other pages www.justgiving.com/fundraising/johnreevesmarathon.
We'd really appreciate your support in helping both John over the line and also our very own nets appeal. Thank you John!
Painswick Cricket Club 100 mile challenge report and Bristol update
Three players from Painswick Cricket Club in Gloucestershire completed their walking challenge from the cricket ground to Lords cricket ground in London (100 miles in total)
They helped raise money for the net bay to be developed at the ground. The three players Dom Barnard (teacher at Cashes Green in Stroud), Tom Hayward (teacher at Coopers Edge in Gloucester) and George Macduff (teacher training at Gloucestershire University) undertook the challenge in the first weekend of their October half term. They set out from their home ground in Painswick on Saturday 24th October at 5:00 am and arrived at Lord's 3:15pm on Monday 26th October.
All regularly represent the club, who this year have run up to 4 Saturday teams, Sunday and midweek teams alongside the junior sides. Dom has been a youth coach at Painswick for the last 20 years and both George and Tom have helped with the coaching over the last 6 years, George having played for the club since he was 7. They all know how important the new nets are to the development of cricket for the youngsters of Painswick and the surrounding areas. Every penny raised will go towards the net fundraising and help the club towards their target.
It proved to be a hard challenge but the lads were relieved to reach the famous old stadium and finally put their feet up over a well deserved beer.
Thanks to all the supporters along the route, transportation, beers, sponsorship and good wishes.
Please see below sample photo's of Tom, George and Dom in their Painswick training tops and fleeces en route and at the final destination.
Not only that but this May Bank Holiday (31st May) , the three lads walked from Painswick to the County Ground, Bristol, completing the walk in 9 hours and raising over £1,000 in the process. Amazing stomping from the guys and great additional income for the fund-raising - pictured below as they arrived at the County Ground followed by the original walk to Lords
Our ambitions and other activity
To achieve this ambition, and give our club the support it needs, we need to raise over £27,000 and as above we now are delighted that these are installed , despite the delays and impact of the Coronavirus..
Though we have been working closely with the English Cricket Board (ECB), the Gloucestershire Cricket Board (GCB) and other funding bodies, and have had their support and guidance we have ultimately had to raise the vast majority of the cost ourselves
This might sound like a big challenge, but with the help of the local community, we have succeeded in delivering the nets within the tight timeframe.
Please look out for and continue to support our fundraising activities including supporting the walk even now completed over the next few months - or sign up to Painswick Cricket Club Net Fundraising [https://bit.ly/2FUCNuu], which means you can raise FREE donations for us every time you shop online.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT SO FAR - IT IS AMAZING WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED. WE HAVE TAKEN A LOAN TO MEET THE SHORTFALL SO ANY FURTHER DONATIONS WILL BE WELCOMED
The below just shows the difference compared to our title photo when we started early in 2020. We look forward to welcoming you to the official opening on Friday 16th July - c 600pm tbc
