    Summary

Noto Earthquake Aid UK. London-based Ishikawa Kenjinkai (ロンドン石川県人会) project to raise awareness and support those affected by the Noto Earthquake on 1 January 2024.

    Details

The Noto Earthquake Aid UK project has been established by the London Ishikawa Kenjinkai (a group of friends with connections to Ishikawa Prefecture) to raise awareness and support in the UK for those affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake which struck on 1 January 2024.

On 1 January 2024, at 16:10 JST a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck 7 km (4.3 mi) north-northwest of Suzu, located on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The shaking and accompanying tsunami caused widespread destruction on the Noto Peninsula, particularly in the towns of Suzu, Wajima, Noto and Anamizu, with the neighbouring prefectures of Toyama and Niigata also recording significant damage.

Our initial fundraiser is to raise £1000 to use for a goodwill package to be sent to those affected by the Noto Earthquake. Many people are still living in shelters and have limited access to hot food. We would like to donate the money to the Sustainable Restaurant Association Japan (SRA JAPAN) who have been working with people in Noto to help prepare meals for those affected by the disaster.

In particular we would like to donate tea and biscuits for the children of Ishikawa Prefectural Nanao Special Needs School who have appealed to the SRA Japan for help. We hope that the children will be encouraged by our gesture of support from UK and that they could enjoy a British style tea party at their school.

We hope that this will in turn raise awareness of the situation in the Noto region and encourage people to donate to further projects in the future.

    Thank you for your support!
