Story
** UPDATE **
Nina and Felix climbed Ben Nevis on 5th July. The weather was good at the bottom, but as they climbed up the mountain, visibility decreased and they had some hard conditions to deal with - slippy rocks, rain and cloud. It also dropped in temperature and was freezing and snowy at the top! They did a great job despite the bad conditions, as many people were turning back and did not make it to the summit. They made it though, but was a long slog back down again. They have their sights set on Snowdon next!

Last year, the Sea to Summit team climbed Kilimanjaro and came home to tell their families stories about their experiences and all the porters who had helped them.
Nina and Felix decided to help raise money to pay for the college fees of one of the porters. The porters are the men and women who carry all the bags, tents, and equipment up the mountain. They always go ahead and set up camp each night, so have to climb quickly. On summit night they also accompany the climbers to the top of Kilimanjaro and help in any way that is needed.
Guides accompany the climbers and set the pace, helping with the tricky sections of the hike like the Barranco Wall, and they also tell the climbers all about the local area, so they have to have a good standard of English. They receive higher wages and can provide a better life for their families. To become a guide, the porters need to attend college and take a qualificaton, so it is often out of reach for most of the Tanzanian locals unless they receive sponsorship.
Each college place costs £450 including language courses and travel expenses. Any excess will go towards living costs while the porters are at college (which is often far from their home).
