Story

When Niko Szabo was born, he had severe HIE, not expected to survive past 6 days. He spent 16 days in intensive care in Singleton Neonatal Unit, closely and lovingly cared for by the amazing team. Niko initially underwent therapeutic cooling, and not only survived past 6 days, but his brain scans were clear, bowling consultants, Gab, I, and surrounding family over.

Age 1, Niko became unwell again. He was diagnosed with arteriovenous fistulas of the brain. He had over 50 faulty connections between veins and arteries, which caused fluid build up and bleeds. Niko was taken by Helicopter to Great Ormond Street where he had non invasive surgery on his brain. Niko made a remarkable recovery.

Niko is running the Swansea 1KM on 18th September to raise awareness for babies and families who have experienced time in a neonatal unit. Funds will go to both Singleton Hospital Neonatal Unit and Great Ormond Street. It costs £1200 for a baby to be cared for within the neonatal intensive care unit for 24 hours. Without support, these services couldn’t be what they need to be for other families.

Thanks in advance, From Niko and Co ❤️
