Story
YOUR MIND MATTERS
Created by Louis Nyas & Holly Horsley
This is an URGENT appeal to raise awareness for the prevention of suicide across the UK.
World Suicide Prevention Day is Friday the 10th of September #WSPD2021
We are raising funds to have a mental health awareness slogan we have designed printed on beer mats. They will be handed out in pubs/restaurants/cafes across the North East & Cumbria with the potential to reach even more places.
We are looking to raise in excess of £1,200 which will allow us to have 50,000 beer mats printed and shipped. Any donation large or small will be greatly appreciated.
*The beer mats include a QR code which can be quickly scanned and will direct to an URGENT national and local helpline page. Samaritans UK and If You Care Share.
90% of donations received will go towards having the slogans printed on beer mats/posters to be distributed across the UK.
The remaining 10% of donations will go directly to the charities supporting the campaign.
Kyle’s Story:
On Sunday the 4th of October 2021 our community was left shaken by the devastating news that Kyle Dilks 'smiler' had sadly taken his own life. A lad who was always smiling and always up for a pint so I am raising money to get mental health awareness beer mats out there in memory of our Kyle.
I am writing this from the bottom of so many hearts - There will never be another like Kyle, he was truly one of a kind. He had a beautiful spirit like no other, the most gentle soul with the most incredible energy. He had the most infectious smile, you couldn’t help but smile when he was near, he lit up the room wherever he went. You will forever be in our hearts. We are all heartbroken that he was in so much pain, no one deserves to feel this way. Let’s try to end the silence today.
Please help us to remember Kyle's life for all the joy he brought to so many lives by raising awareness for this URGENT cause. If one life can be saved from this that would give us all something to smile about.
BRING THE MASK DOWN. END THE SILENCE. SPEAK OUT. WE ARE ALL HUMAN.

Statistics:
Sadly, depression and suicide rates have been rising rapidly year after year across the UK. With 2020 seeing the highest amount of reported cases since 2004.
Statistics from papyrus-uk.org state that suicide is the biggest killer of under 35’s in the UK.
UK statistics show that young men are 3 times more likely to feel depressed and commit suicide than young women. Gov.uk https://rb.gy/jndawu
These statistics are devastating and many charities are worried about a growing trend as Mental Health funding is cut again across the NHS.
Many local hubs, shops and community centres have closed down over the years and even more this year due to the pandemic. These places were a vital lifeline for so many people.
‘Currently, around 90% of callers to HOPELINEUK are mentioning Covid-19 and we understand more than ever the impact that the current situation is having on the mental health of young people across the UK.’ papyrus-uk.org
So what’s next? We must come together to spread awareness. We must support charities that care. We cannot wait for the Government to take action on this as too many lives will be lost waiting.
We need to spread this message fast. Please help save a life by donating to this URGENT cause. Thank you.
BRING THE MASK DOWN. END THE SILENCE. SPEAK OUT. WE ARE ALL HUMAN.
