Story
Over the weekend of the 27th and 28th August I will be completing a massive sponsored triathlon challenge.
The first and scariest challenge is a 1 mile open water swim in Loch Lomond with the Great Swim (brrr!!). Then straight onto the bike to wind my way homeward, a mere 25 mile meander! After a brief rest and hopefully a good night’s sleep it’s off to Strathclyde Country Park for a 10km race with Women's Running. Here's hoping the legs stay strong!
All this is to raise money for my visit to Malawi with the Malawi Leaders of Learning Charity (MLOL)
MLOL has been established to improve education in Glasgow and Malawi.
It's a two-way charity and development scheme aimed at sharing good practice, resources and teaching expertise between the two countries to improve the quality of learning and teaching in a challenging environment. Alongside this we will be working with schools in Glasgow making links between learners in the two countries and building a shared vision of a sustainable future.
I will be travelling to Malawi in September to work with teachers and learners in a Mary’s Meals Primary School in rural Blantyre, Malawi.
I will spend 4 weeks developing learning and teaching and looking at ways to enhance pupils’ experiences using easily available resources. Class sizes can be as big as 200 learners – all squeezed into one room however I will be encouraging group work, discussions and collaborative learning strategies so that these young people have essential skills for a better future. I will also be establishing a school library and showing how this can be used to enhance learning.
In order to be able to take part in this exciting opportunity I have to raise £3000. This will be used to help pay for flights, accommodation and travel costs during my time in Malawi.
Thank you so much for any support, donations and time that you offer me. I look forward to seeing you and raising money to help support this fantastic charity and the amazing work that has
