Iʼve raised £7,145 to support the Children's Hospital at Royal Stoke University Hospital in providing art and play therapy for children and young people.

    Story

I'll be attempting to ride 4,000 virtual kms on Zwift, within 7 days, using an indoor smart trainer. This will take 16-18 hours per day and is the hardest challenge I've ever attempted! Why? My son, Edison, has been extremely ill since February this year, and it has been a very challenging time for him, both physically and emotionally. The Children's Hospital at Stoke has been instrumental in helping him through this by providing not only essential medical care, but by supporting us as a family and helping Edison cope with anxiety about medical procedures and dealing with his long-term illness. When things have gotten especially tough, they have swooped in with interactive play, art therapy, surprise Lego drops, fidget toys, raising his spirits and improving his well-being, time and time again.

Money raised will be used to buy toys and equipment to allow the Children's Hospital to continue their great work in helping other children lift their spirits through play and making a bad time a little bit better.

Thank you to all those who have supported this fundraising effort. Sorry it took so long to respond to you all, and apologies for any typos or funny spellchecks! I think you're all amazing. This journey has been tough, but worth it to find such strength and heart in our community that I didn't realise existed in such abundance. Team Vegan and friends have been instrumental in this effort, so too has my family who have worked so hard behind the scenes. I'm on the road to recovery, both mentally and physically. Thank again. You're awesome. John x

Sorry, been a while. We managed to achieve an amazing 3,334km, which beat my previous best week of 718km by a huge margin! Couldn't have done it without the amazing support of you all, Team Vegan & friends. I intend to continue replying to all donations, but it became difficult to respond in real-time while riding. I just want to say a huge thank you for the money you've raised. Keep the donations coming. We're still raising money & I'll be sure to post an update once we organise the donation to Stoke Hospital. Please continue to share. Ride On

1600km done. Leg muscles ok, but tendons sore, so icing. Arms are burned from pads and elbows ache a lot! Otherwise, nothing unexpected and well looked after by family. Back on at 4.30am https://zwiftinsider.com/john-walkley-4000km/

Hey, just saw the details on Zwift Insider, amazing. I was born (very very prematurely) in Royal Stoke so it's a cause close to my heart. Ride on!
