Story

JAMES MCKEEFRY - A MAN YOU DON'T MEET EVERY DAY

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of James.

James passed away peacefully on the evening of 1st December, surrounded by his family, his favourite music and unlimited love.

James had fought pancreatic cancer for the past 18 months and continually overcame and beat each obstacle and diagnosis, battling with strength, dignity and spirit. Throughout his illness, he remained positive, full of heart and humour and maintained his unwavering determination to make the most of each day with his family and to continue to enjoy and pass on his lifelong love of music.

As a family, we are so proud of him and although our hearts are broken, we recognise how fortunate we have been to have him as a Husband, Dad and Dado. From his days as teenage DJ, guitarist and singer, playing in bands in Carrickfergus, through to his 25 years of broadcasting The Celtic Fringe on BBC Radio in the East Midlands and most recently his 25 years of successfully running and hosting the McKeefry Irish Music Festival, James has truly left his legacy and because of all that he has achieved, he has left us all with so many happy and heartwarming memories.

In the words of Dad’s favourites, The Dubliners, he truly was ‘A Man You Don’t Meet Every Day’.

We would like to raise money for the Sheldon Oncology Unit at Good Hope Hospital, who took exceptional care of James.
