    Story

Many of you might remember Jack’s Just Giving page about a year ago to help raise funds to help him practically through his treatment of Leukaemia. Despite Jack being a trooper with the treatment, side-effects and disruption to his and his family’s life. The leukaemia has returned, just before his 18th birthday.

Your help is needed again. He is back to attending Queens Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham regularly and he is going to need a stem cell transplant.

For those of you who don’t know Jacks journey with this cruel disease, here it is in a nutshell.

Jack is a kind, caring young man. He was doing great in Year 12 and looking forward to his summer holiday where he was going to Ghana to volunteer in a school. For his 17th birthday he ironically asked for donations to Cancer research and Teenage Cancer Trust.

He has fantastic friends and family, including his slightly crazy Mum, Katie who has a heart of pure, glittery gold.

But, just days after his 17th birthday and following his first driving lesson he was diagnosed with leukaemia.

He was treated at Queens Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and endured the horrible side-effects of chemotherapy. He made many sacrifices to battle the disease, not going out, seeing friends and generally putting life on hold. His mum had just moved into a new house with her partner Neil. They too, were looking forward to make their new house into a home with Jack and Neil’s children. To ensure that Jacks treatment was not hindered by any infections, Neil offered to move out, putting them all into a lock-down situation, well before we even knew what the phrase really entailed.

After many months Jack was thought to be in remission. Jack was making plans for a ‘lock down’ 18th birthday. Katie and Neil looking forward to Covid restrictions being lifted so at last Neil and his children could return and they could all start living life as a family again.

However a couple of days beforehand Jack was told the Leukaemia had returned. Its not fair is it?

    How can you help?

WHAT WILL YOUR MONEY BE SPENT ON?

Jack travelling to and from Birmingham Queens Elizabeth Hospital. This is a an 80 mile round trip, imagine the fuel bill!

A treat for Jack at the end of the treatment, something for him to look forward too. Not sure what this is, but I’m sure him and his mum will have great fun planning what he can get/do.

A few words from Jack's mum. 2 years ago today I was frantic. Jack was unwell but didn’t seem ‘seriously’ unwell. I’ll never forget the phonecall from the GP that Friday afternoon, after bloods had been done, to say they wanted Jack to be admitted. They said go straight to ward 23. Off we trotted As we walked towards the ward the words HAEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY hit me like a train. And in my heart of hearts I knew The next morning our world was turned upside down, the worst was confirmed It’s been beyond horrific, BUT - he’s on the up!

An update from Jack's mum. It fills my heart with joy to be able to say how much better Jack Fenton is! He’s really turned a corner. He’s been out a couple of times to watch the football with the lads. Then yesterday he went out on the Severn with a couple of the boys on a canoe. There are days when he’s shattered, and days when he’s able to get out and do things. Such amazing progress. We’re so thankful. It feels like we’re all on the up now, finally! ⭐️❤️💥
