Story
After a faltering start between 2000 and 2002, cricket in Iceland was firmly established in 2015 with the creation of two clubs: Reykjavik and Kopavogur. A small but dedicated core of about 30 players runs Icelandic cricket.
Every year, we run a five-match series between the two clubs (Reykjavik won 3-2 this year), an overseas tour (to England this year), we participate in the European Cup for teams too small even to be Associate Members of the International Cricket Council (hosted by Czechia this year), we have a showpiece exhibition match between Reykjavik and Kopavogur, and we host touring teams from England (this year we have hosted Hackney Village, Allez les Bloggers, Antelopians and the Authors).
We'd love to extend an outreach programme to Icelandic schools and to increase our pool of native players. We're not eligible for funding from the ICC unless we increase the number of Icelandic cricketers, and it's difficult to do that without funding. We don't even have enough cricket balls, let alone more expensive equipment we need like a matting pitch, coaching aids or a bowling machine.
Your financial help would be very much appreciated. You can visit our Facebook page. If you are interested in organising a tour to Iceland for your club, please contact Next Stop Iceland.
Thank you for your time.
