Henry's Story

Almost four years ago, Henry had major surgery on his right eye after developing a serious ulcer that could have resulted in the loss of his eye. Luckily the surgery was successful and his eye was saved. Since then he has been under the care of eye specialists, receiving multiple eye drops a day. Initially I had to chase him around the living room and call in additional help to administer the eye drops (imagine Rachel in Friends) but now he sits patiently until the drops are complete. Unfortunately while his eyes are now healthy, and his tears fall fast, he has progressive cataracts in both eyes and this is impairing his vision. He is a determined little pug, and gets on with things but his vision is deteriorating; he easily loses sight of me, gets confused, dogs take him by surprise and he is unable to walk down or upstairs if it is not well lit. I fear that the cataracts is getting worse and could lead to the loss of his eyes completely. For this reason, I am raising to fund cataract surgery to be undertaken by the eye specialist veterinary he has been in the care of since 2017 when he first had surgery. They know him, they know his medical history and his individual requirements. This would be surgery on his left eye, as his right eye now has scarring that would require laser treatment before having cataracts surgery.

Henry is insured by Pet Plan, and they have always been the insurance company that covered Henry however they are refusing to cover the cataract surgery because of the surgery he has had on his right eye. For this reason his eyes are now exempt from his policy. I have put in a complaint and it was closed, I have also put in a pre-authorisation claim and it was rejected by Pet Plan despite this surgery being on a different eye and a different condition. As a student self-funding this surgery is not an option for me.

H has been by my side for 11 years, he makes everyone he meets feel special and he is full of love and character. Anything you can give will mean the world to me and help this little pug get his sight back. Thank you.
