Story

Our dearly beloved Mum, Helen Harlow, was a much loved resident of Westwood Court Nursing Home, Winsford, for several years until she sadly passed away on 5 May 2023, age 69.

While at Westwood Court, Helen was famous for her love of the entertainment, day trips and wide ranging activities that were always so thoughtfully arranged by the wonderful staff for residents to enjoy.

From singers to cinema outings, themed events, garden parties, to quizzes and obligatory games of bingo, Helen was always so eager to take part in anything and everything that had been organised. It was a lifeline to Helen, and kept her going through times of trouble.

Although Helen is sady no longer with us to enjoy the entertainment and activities that she so very much loved at Westwood Court, her family have decided to open this fundraising page to raise as many funds as possible so residents can enjoy more events in her memory.

Entertainment and activities are the lifeblood, as well as a lifeline, to the home’s residents - giving them hope, fulfilment and purpose. Helen would be honoured to raise funds in her memory so her beloved friends at Westwood Court can go on to enjoy many more days out, entertainment, quizzes, parties, take away nights and more.

HELEN’S STORY:

In April 2022, Helen was diagnosed with an aggressive Stage 4 oral cavity cancer. Having been through so much in her life beforehand, this battle was to be the toughest of them all. Extensive 12 hour surgery to remove the cancer and reconstruct her beautiful face was then followed by an arduous course of radiotherapy.

Helen faced a gruelling journey to recovery ever since but didn’t once give up. Although she had her low days she truly believed she would win the war. Sadly, in March this year, it was confirmed that the cancer had returned with a vengeance in not just her face, but also her neck and chest. Her body quickly declined but her mind didn’t give up. She fought to stay alive until Jesus said: “Come with me.”

We are so incredibly proud of our beloved mum, Helen. She was the most loving of mothers. The cluckiest mum who knew how to feather her nest and love, nurture and provide for her children.

Despite her own personal health battles over the years her love and commitment to her children Sarah and Ryan, our dad Stephen, her four granddaughters, her five brothers and three sisters, countless cousins and wide circle of friends, was resolute and unwavering.

Famous for her most remarkable long term memory and her love of music, quizzes and days out, she knew naturally how to make hearts smile. She loved the people of Winsford and was well known and well loved by so many. Helen touched the hearts and minds of all who had the pleasure to know her.

Now, Helen rests peacefully in Heaven, but we’re pretty sure if there’s a dance floor up there playing her favourite Cliff Richard, Abba, Bee Gees, Neil Diamond and Tina Turner songs, she’ll be on it 💃

Our mum. Forever in our hearts. The wind beneath our wings. She was…
