Weʼve raised £2,767 to remember Heather Stronach (née Roblin)

Funded on Thursday, 1st April 2021

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Our dear Heather tragically passed away on 2nd November 2020. Her funeral took place on Friday 4th December at 12.00 at Saltwell Crematorium, Gateshead.

In lieu of flowers, we have set up this page for anyone who may wish to make a donation in Heather's memory.

Ideally, we would like to purchase a memorial bench (£2,000), to be installed somewhere she loved along the Firth of Forth near Edinburgh with views out across the estuary. We know Heather would appreciate the practicality of this too, as someone with limited mobility herself.

We would also like to plant or adopt a tree through Tree Time Edinburgh (£500) https://www.tree-time.com/

We will donate any additional funds to charities that we believe Heather would want us to support - Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home and SustransUK. We are in the process of setting up a separate Justgiving page for the charities so that they can claim 25% GiftAid on eligible donations: https://www.justgiving.com/team/heather-stronach

For Heather's family and friends in New Zealand, we plan to set up a separate fundraiser for you guys - watch this space!

Please rest assured too that we intend to arrange further celebration events for Heather in the UK, New Zealand and Germany when restrictions are lifted.

    Much love,

    Martyn, Jodie and Dave

We all miss Heather so much, and having a physical place where we can go to reflect and remember her is a comfort – as is thinking of the hundreds (maybe thousands!) of people over the years who will now be able to enjoy a moment of rest in such a peaceful spot. Thank you to East Lothian Council for their help with the location and installation, David Ogilvie Engineering for creating the perfect bespoke bench, and most of all to all of you for your kind and generous donations which made this possible. On Saturday 1st October, some of Heather’s close family and friends gathered at the bench to lay flowers, plant some bulbs and take a moment to remember her. In true Scottish fashion, the heavens opened – but then the skies cleared and a rainbow appeared over the Firth of Forth, which felt like a fitting tribute. If you wish to visit, the postcode for the car park is EH21 7QE - the bench is a short walk north of the car park. (2/3)

Hello everyone, I'm so pleased to let you know that Heather's memorial bench has now been installed in a beautiful spot at Musselburgh Lagoons near Edinburgh. The bench overlooks a lake opposite a nature reserve that is renowned for its birdlife. The bench includes some personal touches – a purple rose, to celebrate her favourite colour and her favourite band (Guns ‘n’ Roses), a Kiwi, to represent her connections to New Zealand, and two Canada Geese, which she loved to hear flying in formation over her home in nearby Musselburgh.
