Story
We’re a community garden near Wood Street, E17, creating a natural, peaceful haven and growing space since 2013. Every year we try to develop a little bit more and foster a love of being outdoors and gardening among the local community.
We have listened to feedback and are responding by planning more plant and food growing initiatives and activities aimed at all communities in and around Greenway Avenue. But … we need a greenhouse to help make our plans a reality!
We need £1500 to buy a greenhouse so we can:
• grow plants from seed – a cheaper and more sustainable option
• overwinter tender plants used for our wonderful summer displays
• grow a wider range of vegetables to share with volunteer gardeners and use in community lunches
• develop our ideas for Young Seedlings outdoor activities for younger children, Seed Swap and Plant Exchanges
With a greenhouse we could grow more food to share and provide gardening taster sessions. We could match gardeners with different levels of skills to encourage knowledge and skills sharing, combat loneliness and isolation, and provide opportunities for moderate exercise. A wider range of vegetables and fruit are planned for next year and a greenhouse would protect tender plants and bring on seedlings.
We try to promote a positive atmosphere, where everyone is welcome to enjoy being outdoors and work with plants and garden in our shared community space.
Are you able to help us develop our vision?

5 years agoHi all, Quick update to say that the slab is down in readiness for the new greenhouse which should be arriving early next month. Big thanks to Peter Glen who made sure it looked fabulous and put in a lot of work. Thanks also to Enda who helped as well with the build. While this photo is not exactly the most interesting, it is all getting very exciting. Thanks again for your support. See you soon in the garden / T

5 years agoWe have been so successful with our fundraising that we can now close the community garden greenhouse fundraiser off this early on the Justgiving site!! All the various donations have lifted us to the overall £1500 goal. We can now press forward with the plans to get our brand new greenhouse! How exciting! We thank the local community for their generosity, love and support for our efforts and the garden , without which we would never have got to this goal so quickly. The trustees look forward to seeing you next year. Thank you, everyone!

5 years agoHi garden supporters, So far we have raised over 60% of the target, which puts us just shy of £1000 so far for the new greenhouse. Don't be shy about sharing the link with others and helping us to get over the line! You support to date has been fabulous and we thank you sincerely for your support. Hopefully this time next year we will be talking about the things we grew in it for the first year of operation!! Very best wishes for the festive period and we look forward to seeing you all in the new gardening year!! Best wishes,
