Story
The horror of the crisis that unfolded in Afghanistan has led an established group of people here in De Beauvoir to re-launch De Beauvoir Welcomes Refugees, in order that our community can be ready to provide as much support as possible to a family who will soon have a home here with us.
DBWR was originally launched in 2017 to bring over to the UK and support a Syrian family, who have been settled here for four years now. DBWR knows from experience that funds are crucial in order to provide the services these traumatised people need, along with practical financial support, particularly as housing is not only scarce but expensive in our borough.
The team is applying to support a family through the Community Sponsorship programme and we hope to welcome a family here in the spring of 2022. Part of the process is guaranteeing that we have an initial £9,000 in funds and under the management of a charity, and thereafter to help support the family for two years.
Please be aware that the total amount we have raised already exceeds what this JustGiving page shows here. We now have over £19,000 in total (at 28th December 2021). This includes: money raised through events, bracelets made and sold by a young 'beader', pledges and other funds.
Over coming months/years the overall target is £25-30,000 in order that we can give the long-term support required, so please don't stop donating.
With the full support of St Peter De Beauvoir church, we are using the umbrella of its charitable status in order to fulfil the criteria and to ensure that people feel secure about their donation. St Peter’s are also involved to help manage those funds and will support all forthcoming work. All funds raised will be used to support refugees.
Thank you for your donation.
The work is supported by our MP, Dame Meg Hillier and our local councillors.
