Story
On the 20th August I'm walking 26 miles as part of the Kilt Walk from st Andrews to Monieith. I have seen my son struggle everyday with sensory issues so I'm trying to raise money to purchase sensory resources and to help towards a sensory barefoot path at school. Sensory Process Disorder (SPD) is a very difficult disorder for a child to deal with and very common in children who suffer from ADHD & Autism. Simple resources can help calm a child in a difficult environment. A simple explanation of SPD is standing in a room with people talking, back ground noise and perhaps a Tv on. Whilst many people can channel the noise out a SPD sufferer can't. This can lead to anxiety issues and meltdowns
since starting this page the support has been overwhelming. after a discussion with Mrs Cheape at Carlogie we have decided to continue fundraising in the hope of developing a whole new sensory are directly outside the school pick up area at the rear of the school. the plan is to have artificial grass ( robertsons don't main or own this area) a quite area for children that get overwhelmed in the playground. a new shed and equipment would be purchased to put in this area. I'm positive so many children would benefit ❤️
Some children struggle with the expanse of a large playground and find it difficult to make choices and/or play and interact with other children positively. At Carlogie we have identified two 'Quiet Zones' within the playground, however with limited resources they are not the most inviting of places. We would like to remove the stones and replace with artificial grass to make them accessible for children who rely on wheelchairs or walkers, and useable all year round. We would like to provide durable seating and a Mini Playground Library plus other play resources the children can use individually or in small groups. Just by providing these areas and helping some children feel safer we know they will enjoy playtime more and not find it so daunting..
