We are raising £30,000 for neurosurgery for Charlie with a specialist neurosurgeon in Barcelona who is able to treat spine complications of Charlie's rare disease, Classical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Charlie has Occult Tethered Cord and needs a tethered cord release surgery. This means her spinal cord is inappropriately tethered to the inside of her spinal column causing too much tension in her spine. This is causing nerve damage and putting pressure on her spinal fusion and other unstable areas of her spine.We aim to have the funds as soon as possible so that Charlie can have the surgery in February 2022.

Two years ago, this same surgeon saved Charlie's life, when he operated on her neck and skull, giving her a spinal fusion and jugular vein decompression, the surgery went extremely well. However as Charlie's condition is complex and progressive it was likely she would need more surgical intervention after this. Her tethered cord was undetected at this time as the symptoms of her neck instability were the most prominent. The tethered cord is now pulling down on her fusion and if left untreated will cause further instability, more nerve damage and put Charlie's life as she knows it in danger.
