Story
Help us get our friend Caroline Hope home from Turkey before it's too late.
4 months ago our friend Caroline went to see the doctor in Izmir, Turkey, where she lives, as she was short of breath and worried she might have DVT after flying home from seeing her brother in South Africa.
Unfortunately, it was much worse than that. She was told she had a pulmonary embolism caused by a stage four cancer that had spread all over her body. She had to start chemo immediately to fight the disease.
Four months later, she had finished her cycle of chemotherapy and was miraculously close to being cured, according to the doctors in Turkey.
However, she took an E-coli infection from the final operation to remove a tumour in her liver and, when they operated again to flush out the infection, they perforated her bowel, which can be life threatening itself.
After a further operation to fit a colostomy bag, Caroline has been left horribly weak and potentially close to death.
Having been a fit and healthy young woman only a few months ago, she is now thousands of miles from home in Glasgow with no guarantee of being able to get home and perilously hanging on to life.
All she wants to do now is come home, but as she is now out of contract with her Turkish employers, she cannot pay for the vital medical treatment she so urgently needs so bring her home we've set up this crowdfunding page as we need to raise enough money to cover the cost of the insurance and emergency flights, which could cost up to £29,000, according to the British Embassy in Turkey.
Please help us bring our friend home. She's alone in a strange country, needing blood transfusions, stuck in hospital and prone to infection. She's struggling to walk, eat or talk and has to communicate to the doctors through translators so is confused and terribly homesick.
Please donate what you can so Caroline can come home again and continue her fight against this cruel disease.
Thank you x
