On Saturday 16th May at 12pm, NHS Nurse Jennifer Cross will go live on FoodBank Po9's page as she shaves off her long brunette hair. Jen needs your support to help raise £2400, representing a day in the life of a key worker. Can you help her meet her target and help to keep FoodBank Po9 to feed our most in need?

Meet Jennifer Cross, a nurse from Nelson, Lancashire. Currently working in critical care treating patients with Covid-19. Putting her life on the line each day of this pandemic was not enough for Jen, as well as being a front line hero of the NHS she wanted to recognise the work of our country’s many key workers and support the work they do to support people in this crisis.

Meet Darren McKenna who has run FoodBank Po9 in one of the country’s biggest and most economically challenged housing estates in the UK, Leigh Park, Hampshire. This particular food bank is independent, not funded by local or central government, or supported by any big charity or business. Since the lock down the he has seen an increase of demand of 500% some weeks!!! His team are delivering to over 100 households a week with essential groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables and prepared meals. They are completely dependant on donations from community and surplus food they tirelessly collect from local businesses. Darren and his team are all volunteers and have had to pay for their own fuel, ID and PPE.

This is where Jen saw an opportunity to help support her fellow key workers. For ages Jen has wanted to brave the shave, reluctant to look like Darren but desperate to help after meeting in Tortoise Media’s Unheard Voices series, Jen got in contact and offered to brave the shave to help raise funds and awareness for FoodBank Po9.
