Story
We are Anne Logue and Fiona Wallace - two middle aged ordinary wee women from the Paisley area. Sadly, Anne recently lost her daughter Cathrin to a rare and particularly destructive form of breast cancer called HER2+. Cathrin struggled against the disease for the best part of four years before it finally overtook her and she died in May 2020
HER2+ accounts for around 25% of all breast cancer and is very aggressive in women under 40. Although survival rates elsewhere are increasing, the average prognosis for HER2+ is 5 years. HER2+ is particularly invasive as it affects not just the breast but other sites as well, with the brain being increasingly reported as the first site of distant recurrence.
This is rather in the way of a sucker punch for sufferers, and oncologists are admitting that effective treatment of brain metastasis remains an unmet need among women with breast cancer. Indeed, they refer to the brain as a sanctuary site as no drug can reach the cancer cell there. It is this aspect which makes HER2+ such a catastrophic condition.
We want to raise awareness of this devastating disease and hopefully we can raise some money that will go towards funding research into cancer in general and HER2+ in particular. We will be walking the equivalent distance of a Camino (approx 200kms) over July, using Renfrewshire's tracks and paths.

4 years agoWE DID IT! 400Km walked between us, ending with our soggy final km last Friday accompanied by some 36 family and friends. So far we have raised £6.5K thanks to everyone's generosity and kindness. Huge thumbs up to all our supporters, especially those who joined us on Friday, despite the thunder, lightning and torrential rain. There was also a spectacular and very timely rainbow that had Anne greetin' again. LOL. If you missed her on Radio Scotland, here is the link - ff to 54mins and 50 secs: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000l7dx

4 years agoHi guys. Well, tomorrow sees the last of the Catwalks in honour of Cathrin Higgins in which we have raised over £6K and walked 400Km between us. The grand finale takes place in the evening and we'd be delighted if you'd join us for the final kilometre. Please meet us at St Mirin's Cathedral, Paisley at 8pm (note revised time) Friday July 31st, whereupon we will walk together to St James's Chruch in Underwood Road. Not quite Santiago di Compostela but the idea is appropriate, we feel. Bring a torch. Really looking forward to seeing you all

4 years agoWe are past half-way now having walked well over 100 kilometres each. Our totals are partly solo walks and also four joint walks - all in great weather. For the grand finale, on Friday 31st we will be doing an evening walk which, like a real Camino, will take us to St James church, albeit the Paisley one. If you'd like to join us for the final kilometre, please meet us at St Mirin's Cathedral - precise times to follow, but it is likely to be around 9pm. Torches and other lights would be great. Once again, thanks to all our supporters.
