    Story

    IRISH SEA CHARITY PADDLE 2021

We are registered with Awyr Las, Charity Number 1138976 and Mencap Mon, Charity Number 505013.

My sister who I love dearly has been diagnosed with a non-curable cancer of the blood and she is 52 years old.

In 1972 two brothers Brian & Jimmy Williams from Holyhead, Brian being my father rowed from Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead (65 miles) in aid of Cefni Home for people with disabilities. This was the first time recorded that such a small boat only 14 foot in length was used to cross the Irish sea.

With it coming to half a century later, myself Andy Williams and Steve Miles both local lads from Holyhead are setting ourselves the same challenge, however doing it from Greystones (Ireland) to Holyhead in sea kayaks in aid of my sister Yvonne Marion Williams who has mental / learning disabilities and who has been diagnosed with a non-curable cancer of the blood.

Money raised is going to Mencap Mon for people with disabilities here on Anglesey which has been established for over 60 years and is run by a dedicated team of volunteers which Yvonne has been a part of for over 40 years and the Alaw Day Ward which is Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Cancer Unit who continue to go above and beyond in the care and attention that Yvonne is receiving during these sad times for me and my family. Not only do the staff at the Alaw Ward Cancer Unit provide such benefit’s to my sister they also help a lot of other cancer patients and their families and having seen what they do at the unit with my own eyes it makes me feel overwhelmed and proud to know we have such professional caring people who are there to care for us when we most need them.

WHEN I SAY YOUR HELP IN MAKING THIS EVENT AWARENESS AND ANY DONATIONS WILL HAVE A BIG IMPACT, I TRULY MEAN THIS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS THIS FURTHER YOU CONTACT ME ON (07814 730256)

Our event is getting closer and I'm really looking forward to it and would like to thank all who have donated money and who are fully supporting this charity event to raise £10,000 for Mencap Mon, people with disabilities here on Anglesey and the Alaw Ward Cancer Unit in Bangor Hospital. So far we have raised £3,930 however we still have a long to go so please, please keep donating no matter how small as it would mean so much to us if we could reach our target of £10,000 to be split equally between both charity's.
